Target 3.6 Use of public transport shows that there has been more than a 10% increase in weekday boardings in the last five years. This translates to more than 6 million annual boardings since the baseline measurement in 2002. Target 3.12 Renewable energy shows a four-fold increase in both production and consumption of renewable energy. South Australia is home to 56 per cent of the nation's wind power, 90 per cent of its geothermal investment and nearly 30 per cent of its grid-connected domestic solar systems, by far the highest in Australia. This marked the mid point of its ten-year time frame and gives us the chance to look at the targets and compare progress over several years. Highlights include: The number of overseas students grew to almost 28,000 in 2008, double the numbers for 2003. Crime rates continue their downward trend ahead of the target projections. South Australia leads the country with renewable energy having 58% of the nations wind farms. The film industry is well on track to achieve its target with 29 films produced by 2007-08. An increase in the number of women on Boards and Committees shows a rate of almost 45% from a baseline of 33% in 2004, making us the best performing state nationally. The proportion of South Australians receiving government benefits as a principal source of income continues to decline.
