As citizens, people with disabilities have rights, responsibilities, aspirations and dreams. People with disabilities make contributions every day to the economic, social and cultural aspects of South Australia. Our community strives to be open, accessible and welcome. We want to ensure everyone is provided the opportunities, knowledge and skills to live a life which is rich, meaningful and rewarding.
The South Australian Social Inclusion Board is currently developing a reform plan – a ‘Blueprint’ - to set a future direction for the way people with a disability, their families and carers are supported in South Australia. During 2010, the Social Inclusion Board, in partnership with South Australia’s Strategic Plan completed a process of listening to people with disability, their families and carers in South Australia. It is anticipated that the Plan and the Blueprint will support South Australia to develop into a community that is accessible and rich in opportunities for people with disability.
Every target in the Plan has relevance for people with disability, their families and carers. However, the Plan also contains a number of specific targets which have been informed by the voices of South Australian’s with disability, their families and carers.
These targets relate specifically to people with a disability. Many other targets in the Plan will also contribute to positive outcomes for people with disability, their carers and families.
