Audit Committee
The Audit Committee operates as an independent advisory committee. Its primary function to advise the Executive Committee of Cabinet on the interpretation of the targets, appropriate indicators and data sources to use in measuring progress against the targets and the ‘baseline’ for measurement.
The Audit Committee comprises of one member from each of the following Boards:
Dr Leanna Read
Member, Economic Development Board
Mr Don Bursill
Member, Premier's Science and Research Council
Dr Anuradha Mundkur
Member, Premier's Council for Women
Tim Kelly
Member, Premier's Climate Change Council
Gary Niedorfer
Acting Regional Director, SA Australian Bureau of Statistics
As the Government is accountable to the public for the Plan’s implementation and the achievement of targets, progress is monitored through a clear and independent audit of the results against established benchmarks.
The Audit Committee releases public Progress Reports every two years (2006, 2008 and 2010). The next Progress Report is due for release in 2012. These reports include ratings of progress to date and assessments about whether a target is likely to be achieved within the timeframe.
The role of the Audit Committee
The Audit Committee responds to proposals from government agencies on issues of interpretation and data sources rather than developing its own. The Audit Committee has met at least once every quarter since August 2004. It considers detailed reports from government agencies and also interviews agency representatives where necessary.
The Audit Committee does not comment on government strategies nor does it make recommendations on policies in pursuit of the targets.
