Citizens' Jury

One tricky policy problem. Countless potential solutions.  Plenty of stakeholders with ideas about how it should be approached.  Forty three ordinary South Australians charged with coming up with solutions.  Welcome to our citizens’ jury!

Between July and October 2013, our inaugural citizens’ jury looked for solutions to the question:

How can we ensure we have a vibrant and safe Adelaide nightlife?

Led by independent, non-partisan research organisation, the newDemocracy Foundation, the jury has pioneered a new approach to engaging the public in government decision making.

The 43 randomly selected Jury members met regularly from July to October, and presented their recommendations to the Premier on 19 October surrounding ‘Creating a safe and vibrant Adelaide nightlife’. The Jury’s report and the government’s response were tabled in Parliament on Thursday 28 November. Paper copies of the report are available on request.
