Aboriginal cultural studies is included in school curriculum by 2016 with involvement of Aboriginal people in design and delivery

Key Measure

Explanatory Comments

In 2009 (the baseline year), Aboriginal Cultural Studies were part of the curriculum in 41% of the 588 public schools operated by the Department for Education and Child Development (DECD). This is comparable with the 2012 level of 40% of the 555 public schools operated by DECD. Updated data for this target is expected by June 2016.

In interpreting this data, it should be noted that the total number of schools changes each year as a result of factors such as school amalgamations (for example, co-locating primary and junior primary schools), the construction of new schools and the closure of schools.

Aboriginal Cultural Studies curriculum material has been developed under the oversight of a steering committee of the DECD, which includes representative of the Association of Independent Schools and the Catholic Education Office.
