South Australia’s Strategic Plan is comprised of 100 targets. These targets are specific and measurable and enable us to measure our progress towards achieving the Plan’s visions and goals.

Each target is reported on through this section of the website. Data is analysed and uploaded as it becomes available.

54. Learning or earning:

Increase the proportion of 15-24 year olds engaged full-time in school, post-school education, training or employment (or combination thereof) to 85% by 2020

Key Measure

Explanatory Comments

The proportion of South Australian youth aged 15 to 24 years engaged in learning or earning was 78.5% in June 2003 (the baseline year) which was higher than the 78.4% recorded in January 2016.

Since June 2003 the percentage of youth learning or earning has generally been below 80%, fluctuating between a low of 77.4% in November 2004 and a high of 80.2% in September 2008.  The achievement of the 85% target by 2020 is unlikely given the stable trend to date and that a seven percentage point increase is required in the next six years.
