Target:58. Online business:
Increase the proportion of businesses that receive orders online from 24% to 40% by 2014 and continue growth each year to 2020
This target is no longer measurable as the ABS has not disaggregated the data at state level since 2009-10, and the former DFEEST survey done for 2011-12 has not been repeated.
In 2007-08 (the baseline year) 24.2% of South Australian businesses received orders online. This increased by 7.8 percentage points to 32 per cent of small to medium enterprises receiving orders online in 2011–12 (most recent data).
The data source for this target up to 2007–08 was the ABS Business Characteristics Survey, which has been conducted every two years since 2005-06. In 2009–10, the sample size for that survey was too small to enable data disaggregation at the state level. Due to ABS budget constraints future Surveys and Business Use of Information Technology publications will not have reliable data available at the state level.
In 2012 the former Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology commissioned an e-business survey of 1000 regional and metropolitan South Australian small to medium enterprises using the ABS Business Characteristics Survey questions. Future surveys have not been proposed.
