83. Sport and recreation:

Increase the proportion of South Australians participating in sport or physical recreation at least once per week to 50% by 2020

In 2012 (the latest available data) 572,100 South Australian's aged 15+ participated in sport or physical recreation more than once per week.

In 2014 (the latest available data) 551,400 South Australians aged 15 years or older participated in sport or active recreation, on average, more than once per week.

Data is no longer collected for the attendance of a sport event as a spectator supplementary measure. This was last reported by the ABS in 2009-10. No update is available for this estimate. The state departments responsible for sport and recreation are working with the Australian Sports Commission to develop a new sport and active recreation survey. It is anticipated the first iteration of the new survey will be published in November 2016.
