Explanatory Comments

The proportion of South Australians aged 15 to 64* years participating in tertiary education and training increased from 15.8% in 2009 (the baseline year) to 17.7% in 2014. This equates to an increase of 1.9 percentage points, and is 0.4 percentage points above the 2016 target of 17.0%.

This target measures participation in tertiary education and training, not completions, and covers all Australian Qualifications Framework qualification levels beyond Year 12. It excludes international students and enabling and non-award courses.

Seven out of ten South Australians participating in tertiary education and training in 2013 were vocational education and training students, while the remaining three-tenths were higher education students.
