Explanatory Comments

The proportion of South Australians aged 15 to 64 years participating in tertiary education and training increased from 15.8% in 2009 (the baseline year) to 16.0% in 2015.

This target measures participation in tertiary education and training, not completions, and covers all Australian Qualifications Framework qualification levels beyond Year 12. It excludes international students and enabling and non-award courses.

Three-fifths of South Australians participating in tertiary education and training in 2015 were vocational education and training students, while the remaining two-fifths were higher education students.

Data notes:

1. The overall target is for those aged 15-64. Due to age data restrictions for the Higher Ed data, the data sourced for the Higher Ed proportion may include any age

2. Due to Higher Ed age data restrictions Youth is defined as 15-25, not 25 years and younger

3. Older South Australians’ age group is defined as 60-64, not 60 years and over. However due to Higher Ed age data restrictions the Higher Education proportion is measured using 60 years and over.
