South Australia’s Strategic Plan is comprised of 100 targets. These targets are specific and measurable and enable us to measure our progress towards achieving the Plan’s visions and goals.
Each target is reported on through this section of the website. Data is analysed and uploaded as it becomes available.
Target:93. Tertiary education and training:
Increase the proportion of South Australians aged 15 - 64 participating in tertiary education and training to 17% by 2016
The proportion of South Australians aged 15 to 64* years participating in tertiary education and training increased from 15.8% in 2009 (the baseline year) to 17.7% in 2014. This equates to an increase of 1.9 percentage points, and is 0.4 percentage points above the 2016 target of 17.0%.
This target measures participation in tertiary education and training, not completions, and covers all Australian Qualifications Framework qualification levels beyond Year 12. It excludes international students and enabling and non-award courses.
Seven out of ten South Australians participating in tertiary education and training in 2013 were vocational education and training students, while the remaining three-tenths were higher education students.
* Due to age data restrictions for the Higher Education data, the data sourced for the Higher Education proportion may include any age.
