South Australia's Strategic Plan is comprised of 100 targets. These targets are specific and measurable and enable us to measure our progress towards achieving the Plan's visions and goals.
Each target is reported on through this section of the website. Data has been updated as at December 2017.
Target:97. University research income:
Increase the total gross value of university research income to 20% above South Australia's per capita share by 2014 and maintain thereafter
Commonwealth funding to South Australian Universities is the biggest source of research income, and had been increasing year on year until 2014. However in 2014 the total of national funding measured by HERDC was 5% greater than previous years, while funding to SA universities fell 1%. Hence South Australia's relative share of the national funding was disproportionately smaller.
In 2015 approximately $20m less was provided than in 2014. As the total of national funding measured by HERDC in 2015 decreased by only $20m across the board, the impact on South Australia's relative share of the national funding was disproportionately great.
