Reforms to workers’ compensation are aimed at creating a financially sustainable WorkCover system as well as delivering better outcomes for injured workers and their employers.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Industrial Relations, John Rau, has now released the policy statement outlining proposals for significant long-term reform of workers’ compensation in South Australia.
The first stage of reform was completed during 2013. It consisted of a new WorkCover Corporation Charter (click here to view PDF 425 KB) a new WorkCover Performance Statement (click here to view PDF 256 KB) and amendments to the WorkCover Corporation Act (click here to view PDF 92 KB) to increase Board accountability. These amendments were passed on 29 October, 2013.
The second stage of reform considers the foundational characteristics of the WorkCover Scheme. The policy statement outlines the main features of a proposed new workers’ compensation scheme, recognising that a sustainable system must be affordable, fair and simple.

The Government will continue conversations with business, unions and other interested parties on the new scheme.
